Community Development

Shannon Family Resource Centre strongly values the principles of Community Development and engage with community members of all ages to respond to their needs and work with them to find solutions to their own issues.

We run programmes and activities in the Community Building at Rineanna View, Shannon. These include Community Education Programmes sponsored by the Limerick & Clare Education & Training Board (LCETB) through tutor hours.

We also administer the Seniors Alert Scheme & operate
the Kool Kidz After School Club.

We run programmes and activities for a range of age groups with support from the Healthy Ireland Fund and Clare Sports Partnership.

We collaborate and work in partnership with other agencies to assist families in accessing other services in the community.

The Seniors Alert Scheme (SAS) has been established to encourage community support for vulnerable older people in our communities. It provides funding for a personal monitored alarm, connected to a contact centre to enable older persons of 65 or older and of limited means, to continue to live securely in their homes with confidence, independence and peace of mind.

The Scheme is funded by the Department of Rural and Community Development via Pobal with equipment made available through community, voluntary and not-for-profit organisations registered with Pobal under the SAS.
